Statement from Reidsville Police Chief Ray Gibson
Thursday, September 10, 2026, the Reidsville Police Department ceased use of the Flock Safety Cameras. We will not renew our contract with Flock Safety. I believe Flock Safety cameras are a valuable asset to the Police Department. When used appropriately and in accordance with established policy and applicable law, they provide law enforcement with an effective investigative tool to assist in combating crime, identifying vehicles associated with criminal activity, and locating missing or endangered individuals. At the same time, I recognize that the use of automated license plate reader technology has generated concerns within the community regarding privacy, data collection, and the appropriate use of this technology. As Chief of Police, I must weigh the operational benefits provided to the Police Department against those community concerns and the impact the issue may have on public confidence in the Department. I strive to maintain the public’s confidence in our Police Department. The safety of the citizens of Reidsville and those who work in and visit Reidsville are my top priority.
