What was supposed to be a quick trip to the grocery store ended with a Mount Holly man being killed in a shooting Monday night.
Gaston County Police say Thomas Henkel Lark was fatally shot around 8:40 p.m. on Sept. 7 at a home on Grandhaven Drive. His wife, Julie Lark, told Queen City News he had gone out to get tomatoes, onions, hamburger buns and a Coke for their Labor Day cookout, and that she later heard a loud knock from a neighbor telling her her husband had been shot. Police say the shooting followed a disagreement between neighbors that began after a small car collision, and that 25-year-old Jaelan Michael Lee Drum shot Lark three times. Drum was still at the home when officers arrived and was taken into custody; he appeared by video at his arraignment Tuesday.
Drum is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
