Greensboro overnight cooling center open through 7 a.m. Monday

Greensboro residents who need a safe place out of the heat can use the city's overnight Orange Flag cooling center through Monday morning.

The City of Greensboro says the center is open from 7 p.m. Sunday, June 21, through 7 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2026, at the Caldcleugh Center, 1700 Orchard St. The city says the site is available to both single adults and families and is operated by Community Safety Department staff.

Greensboro activates the Orange Flag center when daytime temperatures are forecast to reach at least 90 degrees and overnight temperatures are not expected to fall below 70. Regular daytime cooling and hydration stations also operate during the summer, with current locations and hours posted on the city's cooling-center page.

  • What to know: The overnight site is already open and closes at 7 a.m. Monday.
  • Who is affected: Residents without reliable air conditioning, people experiencing homelessness, older adults, families with young children and anyone vulnerable to prolonged heat.
  • Safety action: Drink water, limit strenuous outdoor activity and call 911 for confusion, fainting, loss of consciousness or other signs of a heat emergency.

Residents should check on neighbors and relatives who may not have dependable cooling and use the city's official page for any extension or new activation.
