— It was definitely not the kind of afternoon drive anyone had planned.
Multiple people were hospitalized Thursday afternoon after a vehicle overturned on Tollhouse Highway in Charlotte County, leaving occupants trapped inside the heavily damaged vehicle.
According to Drakes Branch Fire and Rescue, crews were dispatched for a reported crash involving possible entrapment, with callers also reporting smoke coming from the vehicle.
When firefighters arrived, they found the vehicle on its side with occupants trapped inside.
Crews worked to get the occupants out before they were transported by ambulance for treatment.
Fortunately, officials said the injuries were not life-threatening.
Still, a vehicle ending up on its side with people trapped inside is a pretty good reminder that what starts as an ordinary trip can turn into a major emergency in a matter of seconds.
The exact cause of the crash was not immediately released.
No life-threatening injuries — and after seeing what the vehicle looked like, that's some good news coming out of a bad situation.
