Martinsville-Henry parks roundup: soccer signups, T-ball and summer outings

Families looking for low-stress local plans have several fresh parks and recreation options heading into early June across Martinsville and Henry County.

The Monogram Foods Smith River Sports Complex says registration opens Monday, June 1, 2026, for the 2026 PYSL Fall Rec Season. The complex also has a posted Smith River T-Ball Night on Thursday, June 4, 2026, with games beginning at 6 p.m. at 1000 Irisburg Road in Axton.

For families who want outdoor time without a formal signup, Henry County says the Dick and Willie Rail Trail is a 10.7-mile paved route for biking, walking, running, and rollerblading, with access points in Martinsville and at the sports complex. The City of Martinsville also points residents to the Dick and Willie Passage Rail Trail, the Philpott Lake Fitness Interpretive Trail, and Lauren Mountain Preserve Trail as current local options for a weekend walk or ride.
