Danville parks calendar offers walking, fitness and art for active adults this week

Danville residents looking for low-key weekday recreation have several active-adult and community-center options on the parks calendar this week, including walking, fitness, art and wellness programs.

Tuesday, July 14, is the strongest day to flag. Danville Parks and Recreation lists Green Street Walking Club from 9 to 10 a.m. at Doyle Thomas Park, Prime Time Fitness from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Ballou Recreation Center, Art with Louise Painting Class from 10 a.m. to noon at the Ballou Park Annex, and Parkinson's Exercise from 11 a.m. to noon at Ballou Recreation Center.

The same week, the city calendar lists another Green Street Walking Club session on Thursday, July 16, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Doyle Thomas Park, plus Prime Time Fitness from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Ballou Recreation Center.

For families and teens, Danville's calendar also continues to show ENERGY Summer Program sessions at Camp Grove and Green Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the week, while the broader regional recreation checklist still includes Henry County Movies in the Park on July 24, Smith River fall rec soccer registration through Aug. 3, and Henry County's July camp options such as Canoe Day on July 15, Golf Camp on July 16, and Fishing Friday on July 17.

Danville's senior resources page says Ballou Recreation Center serves adults over 50 and seniors 60 and older with programs such as special events, tournaments, trips, dance classes, exercise and fitness classes, workshops, and arts and crafts. Residents should confirm registration requirements through the city's Rec1 links or by calling Danville Parks and Recreation at 434-799-5200.
